About the Author
David Johnston is Professor of Hispanic Studies at Queen’s University Belfast. His principal research lies in theatre, and the theory and practice of literary translation. He is co-director of the Queen’s-based research forum Betwixt and Between: Translation and Cultural Encounter. He’s a multi-award winning translator for the stage, and has written versions of over thirty plays from Spain, Latin America and France for professional performance around the world. In the early 1990s, he won The Observer Special Award for Achievement in Theatre and London Weekend Television’s New Plays on Stage Award. He has had work performed on television and radio.

Lope de Vega (1562-1635), acknowledged as Spain's most lyrical and energetic dramatist, was a prolific and complusive writer. About the Author

Robert Pelcovits is a professor of physics at Brown University, where he has taught since 1979. He earned his B.A. and M.S. degrees at the University of Pennsylvania and his Ph.D. at Harvard University. The author of over 80 publications in theoretical condensed matter physics, he has lectured on his research at many universities throughout the world. He has taught a wide range of courses at Brown, from introductory to advanced graduate level. In 1999 he was awarded the Philip J. Bray Award for Teaching Excellence in the Physical Sciences by Brown. In 2008 he was named a Royce Family Professor of Teaching Excellence at Brown, and in 2011 the university awarded him the Harriet Sheridan Award for Distinguished Contribution to Teaching and Learning.Having earned both Sc.B. and M.S. degrees from Brown University and an M.D. degree from Cornell University, Joshua Farkas is currently an assistant professor of medicine at the University of Vermont. He was also a National Merit Scholar, a Goldwater Scholar, and a Faculty Scholar at Brown University, with experience teaching college-level calculus and calculus-based physics. Having scored 5s on AP exams in BC Calculus, Biology, Chemistry, and Physics C, as well as 800s in SAT I Math and on SAT II exams in Math IIC, Chemistry, and Physics, he brought a student’s perspective to this book.

This book is great for both content review and contains better questions than the often easier Princeton Review or 5 Steps to a 5. Wish its math examples were more thorough in terms of the calculus. The Multiple Choice is excellent. I feel that the free response is not as long or as involved as the College Board's. Overall a good review book.

Recommended by my physics C teacher. Great if you actually sit down and work it through... but I didn't, so... I think getting a 4 mech and 4 e&m is good enough for 2-3 hours of last minute "oh shoot, when did I ever learn this in class??" review. More my fault on being lazy, almost all my peers used it and got 4 or 5's. Overall it's very comparable to the real test with a notch or two higher in difficulty to get you ready. Just remember, you need to put your worth in it to produce results. Good luck on your AP's!

About the Author

Hayao Miyazaki is one of Japan's most beloved animation directors. If you read Starting Point, his collection of essays and interviews from 1979-1996, you'll love Turning Point. It follows the same format, showing translated articles from various interviews/essays/notes/sketches. It really helps to expand the understanding of the various films he's made and worked on. You get to read in his own words what he thinks of them, his inspirations, and low points, what he considered the best and the worst. There are also parts where he talks simply about his opinion on the state of the world, his interpretation of nature, films, animation, the conditions necessary to raise a child just to name a few.In short, if you want to have a more robust understanding of Miyazaki Hayao and where he's coming from, buy this book. After you read Starting Point of course. This is a continuation of that and it shows his growth as a person and animator. He's not perfect. He admits he has faults, that he's not the best person. But he's honest and true to his vision and someone I greatly respect for sticking to his beliefs.

Really enjoyed this book but I had issues with so many interviews being similar. So you end up reading the same questions and same responses repeatedly. I also thought it was naive of Miyazaki to grossly generalize people on quite a few occasions in the interviews. In several parts he pretty much says Americans could never understand some aspect of cinema because their movies are all about blowing stuff up and that's what they all enjoy. I mean there are variations of this kind of thing where he takes American POP CULTURE (ACK!) and uses it to generalize 300 million people. He does throw around other generalizations about Japan, Europe etc as well. Anyhow, I did get a lot of what I was hoping for too. You get a sense of where he got certain ideas for movies and why he made certain decisions in directing a film a certain way. You can get some of these ideas about Princess Mononoke, Spirited Away, and Howl's Moving Castle. Anyways, it was very much like the previous book, "Starting Point" but this one (Turning Point) was mostly interviews, some poems, and a few essays or they might've been speeches. No articles that I can remember. There were chunks of content that could've been left out without losing anything. As I said, content is repeated in a few places. Far worse in the first half of the book. Worth reading for people who want more insight into this masterful director with the understanding that there are a few awkward and unrelated comments to take with a grain of salt.I still give it four stars because for good or bad, it's mostly what I wanted. And in the afterword, Miyazaki writes about how uncomfortable he was/is about the book. That he felt it misrepresented him or at least didn't identify fully with the book in some ways which is probably the nature of biographies. Views change and also generalizations fade when you're standing in front of someone shaking their hand. And besides, pretty much everyone is contrary at some point, and it's going to be especially obvious when interview after interview is documented like this.

It arrived on time and in great condition. If you are buying this I recommend you buy Starting Point first because this is the second book to that. This is a very good read and incredibly inspirational!

This book takes you through the wisdom and intellect of Hayao Miyazaki who wrote and animated some of the most important works of humanity. Some of these which include: Spirited Away, Princess Mononoke, and Nausicaa of the valley of the wind.

Any book by Miyazaki is golden in my book. You will not be disappointed. This is another winner from Studio Ghibli and the publisher.

This was a gift for my husband. He isnt much of a reader, but he read the first Turning Point cover to cover, so I know he will love this one.
